In an attempt to ensure a sustainable and dignified reintegration of the excluded communities including homeless, parentless, person with disability, girl children, children/person affected with HIV/AIDS, children of migrant workers, tribal communities and unemployed youth into main stream society, Aide et Action International- South Asia (AEAI-SA), an international NGO is organizing a solidarity event ‘Run for Inclusion-Turning dreams into reality’ – a 5 KM run on November 23, 2014 at “Marina Beach”, Chennai. Well known actor from Tamil film industry, Aadhi will flag off the run at 7 am at Gandhi statue.

The crowd will run towards the Marina Swimming pool and conclude back at Gandhi statue. More than 1000 participants including students, home makers, working professionals, youth, representatives of civil society organisations and people from various strata are expected to participate in the run.

The groups being most severely and consistently excluded are almost always the same: Women, Dalits, Adivasis, religious minorities and persons with disabilities, according to the India Exclusion Report 2013-2014.

“Exclusion is the denial of human dignity, human rights, denial of the right to participation in social, economic, political and cultural life”, said Sivagami SivaSubbu, Regional Manager - Chennai, AEAI-SA.

“AEAI-SA through its interventions in thematic areas like access and quality education, inclusive education, migration, sustainable development and global citizenship education was able to reach more than 500, 000 people from excluded and marginalised sections of the society out of which 1, 84, 085 were youth”, said Ravi Pratap Singh, Regional Director, AEAI-SA.

Several brands including Bisleri, JMA-IT, Department of Outreach, LOYOLA College, Chennai have been associated with Aide et Action regionally. Radio City, Chennai is our official radio partner and Askme.com is our online partner at pan-India level supporting the event.

The run is being organized simultaneously in 25 cities across India like Jaipur, Patna, Chennai, Trivandrum, Balangir, Bangalore, Bandipur and Guwahati. The run will also take place in Sri Lanka and Nepal and resources mobilised through this mega event would be used for quality education of children and enabling better employment opportunities for youths from the poor and weaker sections of the society.

The run is one of the biggest community mobilization events in the South Asia region and is an extension of the Aide et Action International's Run Against Exclusion that already took place in Paris and Lyon - France, Chicago- US, Australia, China, Cambodia Dominican Republic and Togo. Last year the run was organized in 58 cities in South Asia and was successful in mobilizing 1,00,000 people to participate in the run.
