CHENNAI: A day after state election commission notified the date of polls for local bodies in Tamil Nadu, the ruling AIADMK on Monday announced candidates for all 12 corporations and district panchayat wards.

Among the incumbent mayors, S Soundappan (Salem), MSR Jaya (Trichy) and Savithri Gopal (Thanjavur) could make it this time, besides Coimbatore deputy mayor Leelavathi Unni and Trichy deputy mayor J Seenivasan.

Chennai mayor Saidai S Duraisamy is a notable miss on the list put out by party general secretary and chief minister J Jayalalithaa.

Former MP and slum clearance board chairman N Balaganga (ward 78), former Thiruvottiyur MLA K Kuppan (ward 7) former Villivakkam MLA J C D Prabakar (ward 80), and former Velachery MLA K P Kandan (ward 184) will contest in Chennai.

While former minister party's Tirupur district secretary MSM Anandan will contest from ward 24, former Trichy mayor and TMC leader Sarubala R Thondaiman, who switched loyalty to AIADMK recently, has been nominated for the ward 44.
