DMDK decides to go alone in local body polls
CHENNAI: DMDK leader Vijayakant has decided his party would contest on its own in the civic polls.
The party has suffered a greater erosion of its cadre and support base since the May polls with its vote share plummeting to a new low of 2.4% from its record of 8% in 2011 when it contested in alliance with the AIADMK.
Vijayakanth's decision was conveyed at a meeting of functionaries, former MLAs and district secretaries at the party's Koyambedu office on Tuesday. Vijayakanth left the venue in less than five minutes citing ill-health, but the session saw senior functionaries insisting that the party severe ties with PWF blaming the front for the poll debacle.
