Engineering student commits suicide, Anna University team condu
CHENNAI: A team of six professors from Anna University conducted an enquiry on Thursday at Sree Sastha Institute of Engineering and Technology in Chennai over the death of an engineering student who had arrears in several papers.
The enquiry report is expected to be submitted to government within two to three days. Gokul Krishnan, a second year engineering student, was found hanging at his residence at Mogappair here on Tuesday. There was no suicide note but his family said the second year student had nine arrears in college.
It was alleged that some students who had arrears were given transfer certificates by the college principal. One of his relatives complained that Gokul was worried about getting a TC as he too had many arrears. After the reports, Anna University had sent a six-member team to conduct an enquiry with students and staff members regarding the TC issue.
“The students were compelled by college principal to get TC if they had more arrears. They were also asked to take a break to complete the arrears,” a team member told DC.
“So there was tension among students regarding the issue. It seems many students in the college have arrears. Still, we don’t know why the boy has committed suicide. Only police investigation can reveal the reason,” he said. The enquiry report is expected to have recommendations regarding the issuance of TCs in engineering colleges.
“We have to get the sign from all six members before submitting it to the government. It will take two to three days,” the team member said.
