Ex-MLA's from DMDK and PMK join AIADMK
Chennai: Ten former MLAs, eight from DMDK and one each from PMK and Puthiya Tamizhagam, joined the ruling AIADMK in the presence of Chief Minister and party supremo J Jayalalithaa here today.
According to a release from the AIADMK headquarters, the eight former MLAs of the DMDK - R Sundararajan (Madurai Central constituency), K Tamil Azhagan (Tittakudi), Michael Rayappan (Radhapuram), Arun Pandian (Peravurani), K Pandiyarajan (Virudhunagar) T Sureshkumar (Chengam), R Santhi (Senthamangalam) and M Arun Subramanian (Tiruttani), M Kalai Arasu (PMK) and A Ramasamy (Puthiya Thamizhagam) enrolled themselves in the AIADMK.
They expressed gratitude to Jayalalithaa for admitting them in the party. All the ten on Sunday submitted their resignations to Tamilnadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal, it may be recalled.
The resignation of eight MLAs has reduced DMDK?s strength in the Assembly to 20. ?As per rule 2 (o) of Tamilnadu Assembly Rules, Speaker P Dhanapal has declared that Vijayakanth has lost the status of leader of opposition, and other benefits,? Assembly Secretary AMP Jamaludeen said in a statement.
It also quoted Dhanapal as saying that no leader would be recognised as leader of the opposition, as none of the legislature parties enjoyed a minimum requirement of 24 MLAs in the Assembly.
The MLAs resigned a day after the last session of the 14th Assembly ended. Beginning 2012, the MLAs called on Jayalalithaa separately and together seeking help from her government to implement schemes, it may be recalled.
