MDMK treasurer Masilamani quits party
MDMK party treasurer Masilamani quit the party on Friday, citing the decision of party general secretary Vaiko not to align with the Dravidian parties in the next year?s State Assembly elections. "I am relinquishing all my party posts including the primary membership of the party," he told reporters.
His announcement has come a day after the party's Salem district secretary K.C.V. Thamaraikannan and women's wing secretary Kumari Vijayakumar quit the party and joined the DMK.
Mr. Masilamani said at a time when there was an attempt to weaken the Dravidian movement, Mr. Vaiko had chosen not to join hands with the Dravidian parties. He also recalled Dravidiar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani's appeal at the MDMK conference in Tiruppur that the Dravidian parties should work together.
Mr. Vaiko, however, sought to play down, the resignations saying that only those who had enjoyed positions in the party had deserted it. "The cadres are still with the party," he said.
