September 12, 2014, Chennai: Mahindra World City, Chennai will be conducting the 3rd edition of the Mahindra World City Run in aid of the Nanhi Kali foundation. The event usually attracts over 1200 runners from Mahindra World City, the surrounding areas and Chennai city. The MWC Run in aid of Nanhi Kali has become a platform for running enthusiasts and others to unite for a common cause.
All funds raised through this event are contributed to Nanhi Kali which supports the education of the underprivileged girl child. “The last two editions of the MWC Run generated a great deal of enthusiasm amongst companies and residents within Mahindra World City as well as students of the Mahindra World School and Chennai city. This year, we are anticipating a larger and wider response.
Events such as this not only help raise money for a good cause but also create a sense of community amongst residents and employees of MWC,” said Mr S Chandru, Chief Operating Officer, Mahindra World City Developers Ltd. Nanhi Kali is jointly managed by the Naandi Foundation and the KC Mahindra Education Trust.
The primary objective of the Foundation is to provide quality education to girl children from economically disadvantaged families. Launched in 1996, Project Nanhi Kali believes that educating a girl child leads to reduction in child and maternal mortality, improvement in child nutrition and health, lower fertility rates, better economic production, and female empowerment. Through Nanhi Kali, the Mahindra Group hopes to play a small but significant role in shaping India’s future by empowering girls through education.
Nanhi Kali sponsorships provide under-privileged girls with academic support (after-school study classes) and material support including uniforms, school bags, shoes, socks, etc. to enable them to attend school with dignity. The Nanhi Kali project provides educational support to 98,000 underprivileged girls across 9 Indian states. The Mahindra Group alone supports the education of 35,000 Nanhi Kalis through direct monetary donations.
