Chennai: A middle-aged man was killed in a fire accident in Nanganallur today. Murugan (40), who was an employee of a watch shop at Nanganallur 4th Main Road was killed when the shop caught fire around 11 am today. It was reported that the man tried to put out the flames and died in the process.

Despite onlookers acting quickly and calling Metrowater and the fire and rescue services department, it led to the tragedy. An eye-witness said, 'Metrowater, located closeby, came soon. By the time we put out the flames, he was almost burnt.' Though the reason for the accident was not known, it was learnt that two more employees who were in the shop managed to rush out.

Grief gripped the otherwise lively Main Road, which is also called Nanganallur Market Road. Murugan hails from Perungalathur and has been in charge of the shop for quite sometime now.
