Two women including 90-year-old, robbed of gold jewellery
CHENNAI: Two women, including a 90-year-old, were robbed of their gold jewellery in different incidents in Triplicane and T Nagar on Sunday night.
Rajam, 90, was robbed of her seven sovereign gold bangle, at Triplicane. She was seated outside her house when a man, on the pretext of seeking directions, approached her.
Since the woman had a poor vision she did not raise any suspicion. Engaging her in a conversation, he removed her gold bangle and fled.
A 25-year-old woman was robbed of her 8.5 sovereign gold chain, in another incident at T Nagar.
The victim has been identified as D Tamil Ellakkiya. On Sunday at 11.30pm, she was on her way to her mother's house, when bike borne men snatched away her gold chain.
When Ellakkiya was about to enter the compound wall of her mother's house, a man wearing a helmet attacked her from behind and snatched her gold chain.
Another man on a bike was allegedly hiding nearby. After snatching the chain, the duo escaped in their bike. Based on a complaint, police registered a case searching the theifs.
