Super Chennai Launches ‘Namma Stories’ Short Film Contest to Celebrate Madras Day and the City’s Unscripted Soul

Inviting all citizens to share heartfelt stories that capture the spirit of Chennai by 15th August, 2025 — with a ₹1 lakh cash prize and a chance to showcase their vision on the city’s most celebrated day.

Chennai, July 30, 2025: In pursuit of stories that reflect the rhythm, resilience, and reality of Chennai, Super Chennai - a citizen-powered urban movement has launched Namma Stories, a short film contest inviting citizens to capture the lives, streets, memories, and everyday magic that define the city. Launched in the lead-up to Madras Day, the contest seeks to honour Chennai through the lens of its people - celebrating its unscripted soul, the beauty, the chaos, the charm, and the ever-evolving change that makes the city timeless.

From iconic landmarks to tucked-away treasures, the contest invites people to uncover and showcase the many layers that make this city truly unforgettable. Namma Stories is calling on filmmakers, students, professionals, passionate residents and everyday storytellers to showcase the beauty of Chennai from their lens to the world. Whether filmed on a phone or a professional camera, what matters most is the emotion behind the lens. There are no age limits, no technical barriers - just a powerful story that brings the city to life.

Entries are open from today and close on August 15, with the winner to be announced on 22nd August on the occasion of  Madras Day - a celebration that commemorates Chennai’s rich heritage. Top entries stand a chance to win exciting rewards and opportunities to be featured at upcoming Super Chennai’s city events and festivals. One standout short film will take home a cash prize of ₹1,00,000.  This is more than a contest — it’s an open invitation to tell Chennai’s story, in your voice, to the world. Interested participants can submit their entries by mailing their short films to hello@superchennai.com

Each short film can have a duration of up to 5 minutes, and must spotlight Chennai in a meaningful way -  whether through a personal memory, a powerful social message, a fictional narrative set in the city, or a documentary-style portrayal of its neighborhoods and people. What the contest seeks is a blend of originality, emotion, and authenticity that brings the city’s spirit to life.

The initiative is part of Super Chennai’s larger mission to nurture local pride, inspire creative expression, and amplify community voices -  all rooted in a deep, shared love for the city.
