Kidney failure is the third leading cause of death after malignancy and heart disease. Globally, one in ten people suffers from some form of kidney disease, and many cannot afford the high cost of treatment and ongoing care. In India, nearly 2.5 lakh people die of kidney failure every year. In Tamil Nadu alone, around 14,440 people develop kidney failure annually, and only about 10% have access to adequate treatment.

Tamilnad Kidney Research (TANKER) Foundation is a registered non-profit charitable trust established in June 1993 by Dr. Georgi Abraham (Founder), Latha A. Kumaraswami (Managing Trustee), Suresh Balaje (Chairman), and other like-minded individuals. The Foundation was established with the primary mission of providing subsidized dialysis and financial assistance for kidney transplantation, medications, and diagnostic investigations for underprivileged patients suffering from kidney disease.

TANKER currently runs 15 dialysis units — 10 in Chennai and one each in Madurai, Vellore, Tiruppur, Dindigul and Coimbatore.

The new medical infrastructure was made possible through the generous CSR support of Kaleesuwari Refinery Private Limited. The company has donated 10 medical utility equipment to the following TANKER dialysis units:

Chinna Porur – 3 Nos
Injambakkam – 3 Nos
Perungudi – 3 Nos
Sathyalok – 1 No

The equipment will be officially inaugurated by Mr. S. Harish Ganesan, Vice President – Finance, Kaleesuwari Refinery Private Limited.

The Urban Community Health Centre, RCCC & TANKER Dialysis Unit is located at 2nd Floor, No. 4A, Hospital Road, Sri Ram Avenue, Chinna Porur, Chennai – 600116. The Chinna Porur dialysis unit is supported by the Greater Chennai Corporation, the CMCHIS, and many valuable donors.

This new contribution by Kaleesuwari Refinery Private Limited will significantly enhance the unit’s capacity to serve patients in need, improving both access and quality of care.
