PM Modi and Rahul to campaign in Tamil Nadu today
As the campaigning for the high voltage four cornered April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections reached the business end, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for AICC President and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha will campaign in the State on Saturday.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold road shows at Sivagiri in Coimbatore and at Mylapore in Chennai on Sunday in support of AIADMK-led NDA candidates. With the electioneering set to end in three days, the poll scene has reached a feverish pitch with Rahul Gandhi scheduled to address three poll rallies in support of the candidates of the ruling DMK-led Front at Ponneri in Thiruvallur district, Sholingur in Vellore district and Thuraiyur in Trichy district
Congress candidates are contesting in the three seats where Rahul Gandhi, the first top leader from the National party, to hit the campaign trail in the state.
However, a meeting or a joint poll rally with Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin, heading the multi-party ruling Front would not take place as both the leaders would be campaigning in different parts of the state.
Confirming that a joint rally would not take place, DMK Organisational Secretary R S Bharati said since Stalin was yet to campaign in another 20 to 30 seats and with little time left, it would be difficult to reschedule his campaign programme.
Hence a joint election rally with Rahul Gandhi could not be arranged, he added.
