PM Modi calls for stronger safeguards against rising cyber fraud

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a sustained push on public awareness, training and education to prevent cyber fraud, including cases involving so-called digital arrests.

The issue was reviewed during the 53rd meeting of PRAGATI, the government’s technology-enabled platform for monitoring governance and the implementation of major initiatives.

Chairing the meeting at Seva Teerth, Modi emphasised the need for regular training of personnel dealing with cybercrime so that new methods used by fraudsters can be identified and tackled quickly.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of targeted awareness programmes. Senior citizens, young people and other vulnerable groups, in particular, should be educated about common scams, warning signs and safer digital practices, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The government also highlighted the need for continuous capacity-building among officials as cybercriminals adopt new techniques.
