Polling in Tamil Nadu tomorrow: 1.47 lakh police personnel on security duty

Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections on April 23, 2026, extensive security arrangements have been put in place across Tamil Nadu, with nearly 1.47 lakh police personnel deployed to ensure peaceful voting.

The state has over 5.73 crore voters, and a total of 75,032 polling booths have been set up. Among these, 5,938 booths across 3,022 locations have been identified as sensitive. These areas are under heightened security, with armed paramilitary forces and special state police units stationed to prevent any untoward incidents.

In addition to state police, around 23,000 paramilitary personnel from 295 companies have been deployed. The security force also includes over 26,000 inspectors and sub-inspectors, along with 94,000+ constables and head constables. Special commando units comprising more than 12,000 personnel have also been assigned to election duty.

Security arrangements extend across 38 districts and 7 major city police jurisdictions, including key urban regions like Chennai. Authorities have also identified 6,300 vulnerable areas, where additional monitoring and patrols are being conducted
