Tamil Nadu Polls: AMMK Gets ‘Cooper’ Symbol
The Election Commission of India has given the “cooker” symbol to Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
AMMK is part of the NDA alliance led by All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and will contest in 11 constituencies. The party can use the “cooker” symbol only in these constituencies. In other areas where AMMK is not contesting, other candidates are allowed to use the same symbol.
The symbol was given based on the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968. Since AMMK is not a recognized national or state party, it is allotted a common symbol for specific seats.
AMMK has used the “cooker” symbol before. In the 2017 R K Nagar by-election, the party contested with this symbol and won the seat. It was also allowed to use the same symbol in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Party leaders said the symbol is important for voters to easily identify their candidates during elections.
