'லிட்டில் இந்தியாவும் சிங்கப்பூர் இந்திய சமுதாயமும்' நூலை முன்னாள் மத்திய அமைச்சர் திரு. ப. சிதம்பரம் வெளியிட்டார்

சிங்கப்பூரில் வசிக்கும் இந்தியர்களின் வரலாற்றை பதிவு செய்யும் பெட்டகம் என ப. சிதம்பரம் புகழாரம்

இந்தியா வம்சாவளியை சேர்ந்த சிங்கப்பூர் குடியுரிமைவாசியும் தமிழருமான திருமதி. செளந்தரநாயகி வயிரவன் எழுதிய 'லிட்டில் இந்தியாவும் சிங்கப்பூர் இந்திய சமுதாயமும்' (Little India and the Singapore Indian Community: Through the Ages) நூலை முன்னாள் மத்திய அமைச்சர் திரு. ப. சிதம்பரம் வெளியிட்டார்.

சென்னையில் உள்ள தாகூர் அரங்கில் (தமிழ்நாடு அரசு இசைக் கல்லூரி) நவம்பர் 15 (சனிக்கிழமை) மாலை நடைபெற்ற நூல் வெளியீட்டு விழாவில் பேசிய ப. சிதம்பரம், "சிங்கப்பூர் தமிழர்களுக்கு 200 ஆண்டு கால வரலாறு உண்டு. இரு நூற்றாண்டுகளாக இந்திய வம்சாவளியினர் அங்கு வாழ்ந்து வருகிறார்கள். அதில் தமிழர்கள் நிறைய இருக்கிறார்கள். சிங்கப்பூர் அலுவல் மொழியாக தமிழ் இருப்பதால், சிங்கப்பூரில் வசிக்கும் இந்தியர்களில் தமிழர்கள் தான் தலையாக இருக்கிறார்கள் என்பதில் எனக்கு மிகுந்த மகிழ்ச்சி, பெருமை.

அங்குள்ள லிட்டில் இந்தியா வசதியாக, செழிப்பாக இருக்கிறது. நம்மை போல் தான் வாழ்கிறார்கள், ஆனால் நம்மை விட வசதியாக, செழிப்பாக, மகிழ்ச்சியாக இருக்கிறார்கள். இங்கிருந்து சிங்கப்பூர் செல்பவர்கள் லிட்டில் இந்தியாவுக்கு செல்லாமல் இருக்க முடியாது. சிங்கப்பூர் வாழ்க்கையில் இந்தியர்களின் மிகப்பெரிய பங்கு உண்டு. மத வேறுபாடு இல்லாமல் இந்திய மதங்கள் அனைத்தையும் அங்கு பின்பற்றி ஒற்றுமையுடன் வாழ்ந்து வருகிறார்கள். மாரியம்மன் கோவில் தான் அங்கு முதல் கோவில், தண்டாயுதபாணி கோவில் தைப்பூச விழா மிகப்பெரிய அளவில் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. குறிப்பாக சீனர்கள் அதிகளவில் கலந்து கொள்கிறார்கள். அந்த அளவுக்கு மத ஒற்றுமை அங்கு ஓங்கி வளர்ந்துள்ளது.

லிட்டில் இந்தியாவை பற்றிய‌ செளந்தரநாயகியின் நூல் மிகுந்த‌ மகிழ்ச்சியளிக்கிறது. காரணம் நம்முடைய கலாச்சாரத்தையும், நம்முடைய வரலாற்றையும் அது பிரதிபலிக்கிறது. இந்நூலை நான் பாராட்டுகிறேன். பல பேரை தொடர்பு கொண்டு தகவல்கள், தரவுகளை அவர் சேகரித்தார். இந்த புத்தககம் லிட்டில் இந்தியாவை படம் பிடித்து காட்டுகிறது, செளந்தரநாயகி தொடர்ந்து எழுத வேண்டும் என வாழ்த்துகிறேன்," என்றார்.

சென்னையில் உள்ள சிங்கப்பூர் துணைத் தூதர் திரு. எட்கர் பாங் நூலின் முதல் பிரதியை பெற்றுக்கொண்டார். பிரபல இதய அறுவை சிகிச்சை நிபுணர் டாக்டர் வீ. சொக்கலிங்கம் வாழ்த்துரை வழங்கினார்.

இப்புத்தகம் சிங்கப்பூரில் கடந்த ஏப்ரல் 25 அன்று வெளியீடு கண்டது. அந்நாட்டின் முன்னாள் வெளியுறவுத் துறை அமைச்சர் திரு. ஜார்ஜ் யோ இதனை வெளியிட்டார்.

இந்த வருடம் சிங்கப்புர் தனது 60வது பிறந்த நாளைக் கொண்டாடுகிறது. அதை முன்னிட்டு இப்புத்தகத்தை சிங்கப்பூர் நாட்டுக்கு தனது சிறு காணிக்கை என்று எழுத்தாளர் திருமதி. செளந்தரநாயகி வயிரவன் தெரிவித்தார்.

சென்னையில் நடைபெற்ற நூல் வெளியீட்டு விழாவில் பல்வேறு துறைகளை சேர்ந்த முன்னணியினர் கலந்து கொண்டு சிறப்பித்தனர்.

Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram releases the book ‘Little India and the Singapore Indian Community: Through The Ages’

A beautiful chronicle recording the history of Indians living in Singapore, praises P. Chidambaram

Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram released the book ‘Little India and the Singapore Indian Community: Through the Ages’, written by Mrs. Soundara Nayaki Vairavan, a Singapore citizen of Indian descent and a Tamil.

Speaking at the book launch held on the evening of November 15 (Saturday) at Tagore Hall (Tamil Nadu Government Music College) in Chennai, P. Chidambaram said: “Singapore Tamils have a 200-year history. People of Indian origin have been living there for two centuries, and among them, there are many Tamils. As Tamil is an official language of Singapore, I am extremely happy and proud that Tamils stand foremost among Indians living in Singapore.

Little India there is a great and prosperous place. People there live like us, yet more comfortably, more prosperously, and more happily. Anyone travelling to Singapore from here cannot avoid visiting Little India. Indians have a significant role in the development of Singapore.  There exists racial harmony among the people of Singapore. The Mariamman Temple is the very first temple there, and the Thaipoosam festival at the Dhandayuthapani Temple is celebrated on a grand scale. Notably, a large number of Chinese participate. Such is the flourishing level of religious harmony there.

Soundara Nayaki’s book on Little India gives great joy. The reason is that it reflects our culture and our history. I appreciate this book. She contacted many people and gathered information and data. This book captures Little India in a beautiful manner, and I wish Soundara Nayaki continues to write.”

Mr. Edgar Pang, Singapore’s Consul-General in Chennai, received the first copy of the book. Renowned cardiac surgeon Dr. V. Chokkalingam delivered a felicitation speech.

The book was first released in Singapore on April 25. The country’s former Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. George Yeo, released it.

This year, Singapore celebrates its 60th birthday. Writer Mrs. Soundara Nayaki Vairavan stated that she considers this book her small contribution to Singapore on that occasion.

Leaders and dignitaries from various fields participated and graced the book launch held in Chennai.
