Pearson Academy India launches suicide prevention training program for health professionals to mark World Suicide Prevention Day

Pearson Academy India (PAI), the services arm of Pearson Clinical & Talent Assessment (PCTA) today launched its flagship Suicide Prevention Training Program, to mark World Suicide Prevention Day on 10th September. PAI Services developed the program in recognition of the growing need among health professionals for structured knowledge and training on assessing risk for suicide and managing suicidal individuals.

Surveys indicate health professionals do not feel adequately equipped to deal with suicidal cases in their clinical practice. This program will help not only health professionals but also professionals in education and allied fields who are looking to enhance their knowledge and skills in the area of suicide prevention.

About the program

The one-day program will train a wide range of professionals, from Psychiatrists, General Physicians, Pediatricians, Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatric Social Workers to School Counsellors and Special Educators. Conducted by PAI-trained experts, the program introduces professionals to the prevalence and the seriousness of the issue and the importance of learning about suicide and its risk factors. The program focuses on valid and reliable assessments to screen individuals who are at risk of committing suicide and management of high risk cases. Participants will be able to register for the program in a PAI center of their choice from a nationwide network, besides benefit from in-house programs for institutions, on request.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mahima Sukhwal, product development manager, PCTA,who led the development of this training said, “This program will benefit all those professionals in school and clinical settings who come across suicidal cases but are not sure how to help such individuals in the best possible way. PAI Services will take the program to each and every school, hospital, clinic and any setting that needs a hands-on, scientifically-valid and easy-to-adopt approach to address the growing problem of suicide.”

Suicide is a growing mental-health problem in the country. PCTA wishes to address this problem with its scientific and digital assessment and intervention solutions through the network of PAIs that work closely with local schools, hospitals, corporates and other institutions that require mental-health and well-being services.
