Dancer-Actor Radica Giri's Margazhi performance at Brahma Gana Sabha
Dancer-Actor Radica Giri showcased her performance this Margazhi season at Brahma Gana Sabha on 12th January. She performed a margam of curated pieces that included a Pushpanjali on the river Ganga, a Swarajathi from the traditional Thanjavur Quartet, a Bhakti-soaked piece on Lord Murugan and a thillana choreographed by Guru Kalaimamamni KJ Sarasa.
A lover of the classical dancer since a very tender age, Radica Giri had the good fortune of coming under the tutelage of the doyenne of the Vazhavoor Bani Kalaimamani KJ Sarasa. A passionate dancer she has followed the practice of this art form with sedulous devotion. She has acted in Bharathi Rajaa’s Nizhalgal as the heroine while still in school and then as heroine with Prabhu in Oruvar Vazhum Aaliyam while in college. She married her childhood sweetheart and migrated to the US. There, she returned to her true love - dance. She imparts education of this beautiful art form to over 100 students and performs extensively. In 2014, inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s Chitrangada - a love epic of a warrior princess and the Pandava Prince Arjuna. She had it translated into Tamil and staged it to a packed and appreciative audience. She feels blessed to be able to continue her learning with Maha Guru Padma Shri Professor Sudha Rani Raghupathy.
