TANKER Foundation’s first programme for World Kidney Day 2020 was a day of awareness, activity and learning for more than 250 patients with kidney disease and the staff of TANKER Foundation.

The event was organized by Rajalakshmi Ravi, Head of TANKER Prevention and Awareness Programme (TAPP) to spread awareness of kidney disease and also create a sense of community between TANKER’s and MMM patients, their families and the staff at the NGO’s 8 dialysis units. She welcomed the gathering at Madras Medical Mission College this Sunday along with details of all the World Kidney day programmes that TANKER has planned this year.

Mrs. Latha A. Kumaraswami Managing Trustee of TANKER Foundation gave an update of TANKER and said the focus of the World Kidney Day this year is on Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere- from Prevention to Detection and Equitable Access to Care.She is a member of the World Kidney Day Steering Committee and IFKF Secretary/Treasurer and Council Member.

Dr. Georgi Abraham, Founder Trustee of TANKER Foundation spoke about the responsibility of dialysis patients to take care of their food and water intake.

Ms. Aparna Gopinath, film actress and theater artist was the Chief Guest and spoke from the heart about making lifestyle changes with respect to exercise and healthy living. 

Mrs. Preethi, Senior Dietician, M M M Hospital delivered a detailed lecture on the importance of diet for dialysis patients focussing on vegetables,meat and fluid intake.Patients from TANKER and MMM asked questions about their diet and technical questions about AV fistulas through which patients have hemodialysis. Our Units heads and Mrs. Preethi cleared patients doubts about diet and dialysis.
