Australia Drop Jake Weatherald for Bangladesh Test; Matthew Renshaw Joins Squad

Melbourne, August 18 (ANI): Australia has made one change to their squad for the second and final ICC World Test Championship match against Bangladesh in Mackay. Opener Jake Weatherald has been dropped due to his ongoing struggles. Despite adjustments to his technique, he scored just 23 and 0 runs.

Weatherald has struggled since his debut last year, scoring only 224 runs in six Tests with an average of 20.36 and just one half-century. Coach Andrew McDonald noted some changes to Weatherald’s approach but acknowledged the difficulty in assessing such small sample sizes under pressure.

Josh Inglis is another option to open alongside Travis Head. However, Matthew Renshaw has been called in as a more conventional choice. Renshaw has previously scored two centuries at Mackay and will be looking to make an impact. He last played a Test three years ago against India but has consistently performed for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield

The updated Australia squad includes: Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Matthew Renshaw, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, and Beau Webster.
