Dr. V. Mohan - New Jersey State Honour for Indian Diabetes Pioneer Dr. V. Mohan
In a significant international recognition of India's contribution to diabetes care and research, the New Jersey State Legislature in the United States has formally honoured renowned diabetologist and Padma Shri awardee Dr. V. Mohan through a Joint Legislative Resolution of the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey.
The resolution was presented to Dr. Mohan by New Jersey State Senator, Vin Gopal, during his recent visit to New Jersey. The resolution was introduced by Senator Vin Gopal along with Assemblywomen Margie Donlon and Luanne Peterpaul, and formally recognises Dr. Mohan's distinguished contributions to medicine, diabetes research and public health.
The resolution describes Dr. Mohan as a “widely renowned diabetes specialist and researcher” and highlights his more than 1,900 published research papers and over 260,000 citations, reflecting the global impact of his scientific work. It also recognises his efforts to take diabetes care to underserved communities through more than 25,000 free diabetes camps and free diabetes clinics.
The resolution further acknowledges Dr. Mohan's Padma Shri, one of India's prestigious civilian honours and his lifelong commitment to advancing diabetes care and research.
The New Jersey Legislature's resolution concludes by paying tribute to Dr. Mohan's leadership, service and commitment and extends its wishes for his continued contribution to healthcare and medical research.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. V. Mohan said:
“I am deeply honoured by this recognition from the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey. I see this not just as a recognition of my own work, but most importantly as an acknowledgement of India's growing contribution to diabetes research and care.”
