Indian Embassy expedites repatriation of Indians killed in Vietnam boat accident

The Indian Embassy in Hanoi is working with Vietnamese authorities to facilitate the return of the bodies of 15 Indian tourists who died after a speedboat overturned near Phu Quoc Island.

According to the Embassy, the victims’ remains are being transported to Ho Chi Minh City before being flown to India. Officials said local authorities are extending full assistance to complete documentation and other formalities.

Among those killed were ten tourists from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh and two from Kerala. Seventeen people survived the accident, and all but one have already been discharged from hospital. The remaining injured tourist continues to receive treatment in Phu Quoc

The tragedy occurred when a speedboat carrying 32 Indian visitors and four Vietnamese crew members capsized near Hon May Rut Ngoai while returning from an island excursion.

Authorities in Vietnam have begun investigating the cause of the accident. State governments in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala have also established helplines to support the families of those affected
