Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital (SBDCH), a premier centre for dental education and research, marked the graduation of its 32nd batch with a grand ceremony, honouring academic excellence through medals and awarding degrees to 110 graduates, including 84 BDS and 26 MDS students.

 

Prof. Dr. Rahul Hegde, Executive Committee Member of the Dental Council of India, attended the event as the chief guest. The convocation was presided over by Dr. Jagathrakshagan, Founder Chairperson, in the presence of Dr. J. Srinisha, Chairperson; Er. N. Elamaran, Managing Director, Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital; Dr. Sundararajan, Vice Chancellor; and Dr. S. Bhuminathan, Registrar, Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (Deemed University).

 

In her remarks, Dr. J. Srinisha, Chairperson, Sree Balaji Group of Medical Colleges and Hospitals (SBMCH), said that the institution has been making steady and significant progress, achieving a major milestone by securing 5th rank in Tamil Nadu and 27th rank nationwide among nearly 340 dental colleges in the India Rankings 2025 of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

 

She congratulated the graduates on their achievements and urged them to make a positive impact on society by using their knowledge and skills to build a brighter future for themselves and for generations to come. Emphasising the importance of ethical practice and patient-centred care throughout their careers, she expressed confidence that, equipped with the strong academic foundation and hands-on training provided by the college, the graduates would make significant contributions to the field of dentistry and oral healthcare.

 

In his address, Dr. M. S. Kannan, Dean, Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital (SBDCH), said the institution has entered into 36 national and international collaborations, including Memoranda of Understanding with the University of Leeds, signed at the British High Commission in New Delhi, and with the Faculty of Dentistry, Chiang Mai University, Thailand, opening new avenues for collaborative research, faculty and student exchange, and dual-degree programmes, including doctoral studies.

 

Dr. Kannan noted that the institution published over 1,400 indexed research papers and secured more than 50 patents in recent years. He added that the college hospital served over 1.5 lakh patients, registering a 25.4 per cent growth compared to the previous year, and conducted more than 70 community outreach programmes.

 

Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital is the only Asian centre of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow for the MOrth examination, which was conducted at the college from November 19 to 21 last year.
