Vijay to campaign across Chennai on Saturday

Actor-turned-politician Vijay is set to intensify his election campaign in Chennai, with plans to cover five key Assembly constituencies in a single day (Saturday), signalling an aggressive push by his party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

According to reports, Vijay will undertake a high-energy campaign tour. During this visit, he is expected to address public meetings and interact with voters across five constituencies, marking one of his most concentrated campaign efforts in the state capital.

Chennai has emerged as a crucial political battleground in the 2026 elections. The city, which comprises 16 Assembly constituencies, has traditionally been a stronghold of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), having won all seats in the 2021 elections.

Party insiders suggest that Vijay’s campaign will focus on key civic issues affecting Chennai residents, including infrastructure, flooding, and urban governance—topics that have already been highlighted during internal party consultations.

The upcoming Assembly election, scheduled for April 23, 2026, will be the first electoral test for TVK since its formation. The party has decided to contest all 234 seats independently, positioning itself as an alternative to the state’s dominant Dravidian parties.

Vijay is also expected to contest from a Chennai constituency, with areas like Perambur, Velachery, and other urban segments being discussed within party circles.
