-First-of-its-kind Nursing conference in India

-Over 350 delegates across India attended the one day conference
Gleneagles Global Health City, the largest facility of Gleneagles Global Hospitals, hosted the National Nursing Liver Conference 2020 in Chennai today. The conference witnessed the enthusiastic participation of nurses across India. It focused on the theme, Basic & Advanced Liver Intensive Care- Newer Opportunities for Nurses. Dr T Dileep Kumar, President, Indian Nursing Council inaugurated the conference and Dr Girdhar Gyani, Director General, Association of Health Care Providers of India addressed the gathering.

The participants got orientation from the liver experts at Gleneagles Global Health City on the basic and advanced liver intensive care and refreshed on care concept and competencies in the care of patients with liver diseases and peri-transplant care. The experts urged the nursing community to comprehend the planning and implementation of the quality assurance program of the liver intensive care unit.The participants took oath to celebrate 2020 as ‘Year of Nurses and Midwives’ at the event.

Dr Jothi Clara Michael, Director of Nursing (Strategy & Planning), India Operations Division, Parkway Pantai, said “Nurse training in Hepatology has been remarkably low compared to training in other chronic diseases and there is an urgent need of nurses to be incorporated into multidisciplinary teams involved in the management of chronic liver disease patients.”

The Comprehensive Liver Transplant Program at Gleneagles Global Hospitals is a pioneer in India and it is one of the largest centre for a paediatric liver transplant. The current liver transplant team has performed 2500+ liver transplants, with a success rate of more than 95%. In the past year, 428 livers were transplanted and 1000+ HPB surgeries were carried out. In honour of Florence Nightingale's 200th birthday, WHO has declared 2020 the ‘Year of the Nurse and Midwives’. Nursing Now is a global campaign in collaboration with WHO and ICN (International Council of Nursing) to improve the health globally by promoting and developing nurse leaders below the age of 35.

We, the 6 hospitals under the umbrella of Parkway Pantai (India Operations Division) - Gleneagles Global Hospitals and Continental Hospitals have joined hands with Nursing Now campaign in partnership with ANEI (Association of Nurse Executives in India) and INC (Indian Nursing Council) to achieve this goal.
