Jack Draper Stuns Novak Djokovic at Indian Wells
British tennis player Jack Draper defeated Novak Djokovic in a tough three-set match on Wednesday to reach the quarter-finals of the Indian Wells Masters tournament. Draper won the match 4–6, 6–4, 7–6 (7/5) after a long and intense battle.
Djokovic, who is 38 years old and a five-time champion at Indian Wells, started the match strongly and won the first set 6–4. However, Draper fought back in the second set and won 6–4 to level the match.
The third set was extremely competitive, with both players showing great determination. Draper managed to wear down Djokovic in the final set, eventually winning the tie-break 7–5 to secure a place in the last eight. The victory stopped Djokovic from reaching the Indian Wells quarter-finals for the first time since his title win in 2016.
After the match, Draper said he won through determination and strong mental focus. He also explained that he tried to solve problems during the match and stay positive. Draper kept Djokovic moving around the court with several drop shots, which helped him gain an advantage during the long rallies.
The match was very close in the first two sets, with only a few points deciding the outcome. A key moment came early in the third set, when both players ran across the court chasing drop shots and lobs in a long rally. Djokovic finally ended the point with an overhead shot and fell to the court in exhaustion after the effort.
Although Djokovic managed to hold his serve after that rally, he later said the point had taken a lot of energy and became an important turning point in the match.
In other matches at the tournament, Carlos Alcaraz, the world number one, advanced to the quarter-finals of the event for the fifth straight year. Daniil Medvedev and Cameron Norrie also moved into the last eight with straight-set victories.
Draper’s victory over Djokovic is considered one of the biggest wins of his career and shows his growing strength on the international tennis circuit.
