TOTO MUSEUM Celebrates 10 Years of Craftsmanship and Innovation
TOTO MUSEUM, founded in 2015 and located at the birthplace of TOTO in Kokura, marked its 10th anniversary on August 28, 2025, welcoming a total of over 600,000 visitors since its opening in 2015. The museum continues to attract around 100,000 guests annually, including international visitors from more than 80 countries and regions, with overseas guests now accounting for approximately 12% of total visitors.
To commemorate TOTO’s 100th anniversary, TOTO MUSEUM was established as a space to preserve the long history, the museum reflects TOTO’s design philosophy, inspired by “Lush Earth and a Drop of Water.” Its pure white, rounded form symbolizes the sanitary ware that defines the brand. Spread across a site area of 9,388㎡, the museum was designed by Azusa Sekkei Co., Ltd. and built by Kajima Corporation, with interiors by Tanseisha Co., Ltd.
Visitors can experience the history and evolution of Japanese plumbing culture through a series of thematic galleries. The First Exhibition Room traces the company’s early roots, displaying Japan’s first domestically produced seated flush toilet and tableware that sustained production for 50 years. The Second Exhibition Room explores the “TOTO Principles” and the Evolution of Plumbing Products, from classic fixtures to innovations like WASHLET. The Global Gallery highlights TOTO’s regional product design across the America, China, Asia & Oceania and Europe, while the Special Exhibition Room hosts rotating displays, including the TOTO GALLERY・MA traveling exhibitions.
Other highlights include the Fine Ceramics Corner, showcasing TOTO’s advanced materials technology, and the Social Contribution Activities Corner, introducing initiatives such as the TOTO Water Environment Fund, established in 2005.
As part of TOTO’s shared value creation strategy, TOTO WILL2030, the company continues to strengthen its focus on “Relationships”—fostering connections between people, communities, and culture. Over the decade, the museum has expanded its exhibition area by 1.5 times, launched virtual and online tours, and introduced a multilingual audio guide in six languages. It also welcomes school programs and SDGs educational trips, fostering awareness among younger generations to understand the core of Sustainability which is well reflected by the company’s WILL2030. These programs help the next generation understand TOTO’s environmental and social initiatives, as well as the importance of sustainability in manufacturing and design.
Admission to TOTO MUSEUM is free, with both guided and virtual tours available for visitors worldwide.
