10 Indian Fishermen arrested by Sri Lanka
COLOMBO: At least ten Indian fishermen along with two fishing trawlers have been arrested by the coast guard of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Coast Guard claimed that the Indian fishermen strayed into Sri Lanka’s territorial waters and therefore indulged in illegal poaching.
As per the officials from Tamil Nadu all the arrested fishermen belong to Jegadapattinam, a coastal village in Pudukottai.
Meanwhile some of the fishermen from Rameswaram today claimed that the coast guards from Sri Lankan Navy allegedly attacked the Indian fishermen and at least 30 fishing trawlers were chased and they snapped fishing nets at gun point while fishermen were fishing near the controversial Katchatheevu Island.
