Chennai Mayor lists out the implemented projects
Chennai: Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy today said more number of welfare measures were being implemented now and added that the support of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had enabled the corporation to function effectively.
He praised the Chief Minister as a leader who was working with the motto 'With the people and for the people', which gave her popularity among the masses.
He mentioned that in the last four years, about 419 projects were announced and about 392 projects were taken up and rest were being implemented. The rate of implementation and completion was more now, compared to that during the Mayorship of M K Stalin and M Subramanian, he added.
DMK councillors took objection to this remark and staged a walkout in protest. Saidai Duraisamy also accused Stalin of having used his position (as Mayor and later Minister) for personal gain rather than working for the welfare of the people.
Speaking about projects being taken up, the Mayor said the project to beautify the Cooum is being taken up successfully. About 27.3 kilometre stretch of the water body would be beautified, he added.
He said with regard to school education improvement, about 76 proposals were made in the last four years and over 70 of them had been implemented. More than 3,000 students have been enrolled in corporation schools located across the city, this academic year. Also, more than 1,000 medical camps were conducted in recent years.
To solve the mosquito menace in the city, the corporation took up removal of water hyacinth across water bodies like Otteri Nullah and Adyar river at a cost of over Rs 6 crore.
