In keeping with the traditions, Deccan Plaza shall be celebrating and offering to Chennaities –“Palakkad Mamma’s Food Festival From 1ST August to 17th August, at OLIVES -Multi Cuisine Restaurant as an elaborate buffet spread.
OLIVES showcases the culinary skill of Palakkad. Palakkad Parasuraman Iyer, the high priestess of cooking. Drop into savour what promises to be a true vegetarian and nostalgic delight. PALAKKAD MAMA FOOD FESTIVAL, presented by celebrity Chef Sri. S. Parasuraman Iyer who hails from Palakkad, Kerala.
He learned this art of cooking from his parents and he started learning from his tender aged of 13. From this age Parasuraman Iyer used to go with his parents for assisting them. His Entire family is in traditional cooking professionals from their great grandappa era from Kolleengode, Alampallam, Palakkad. Sri. S. Parasuraman Iyer has performed his culinary skills for morethan 1000 marriages, besides for many temple festivals.
He has created his record by cooking for morethan 15,000 people for a Devi Temple Festival in Palakkad. He is also visited Haridhwar many times and performed his tasty feast there too. He is capable to create morethan 60 dishes in his menu besides Rasa Kalan and Pavakka Pachadi as his masterpiece dishes. Palakkad has a vivid cultural tradition.
Thunjathu Ramanujam Ezhuthachan, widely accepted as the father of Malayalam literature spent his last days at Chittur in this district. Kunjan Nambiar the most famous of all Malayalm poets and the founder of thullal l , a purely Kerala art form, was born in a small village in this district. Many other noted exponents of varied art forms like Chakkiar Koothu, Kathakali, Thullal etc.. which are intrinsically Kerala art forms, found encouragement and inspiration at Palakkad.
Most noted of all perhaps is the exponent of Carnatic Music late Sri Chembai vaidyanatha Bhagawathar. Likewise Palakkad Mani Iyer was known the world over for his mastery over the mridangam, the drum so central to Carnatic musiforms like Chakkiar Koothu, Kathakali, Thullal etc.. . Palakkad is famous for kalpathi Ratholsavam and Palakkad Iyer’s mouth watering food.
Experienced and well known Palakkad Parasuraman Iyer has specially arrived from Palakkad to Deccan Plaza and along with Our Executive Chef Mr. Anil kumar recreating this “Palakkad Mama’s food festival. We are waiting patiently to serve you some of the traditional DISHES from a clan that celebrates life with pomp and splendor.

Some of the dishes are Injji Pulli, Kallan, Ollan, Avial,, varieties of Thoran,, sevai, chakka kuttu, Pulishery, Erushery, pazzham pori, Paruppu vada, unni appam, Paladai prathaman etc.,An anxious query about the delectable PICKLES AND SWEETS will bring you a heartening response. It is very much there and is variety of DESSERTS.

The Delicacies have been prepared following ancient authentic recipes and Ethnic time honored cooking methods of Palakkad Iyer style, with a cyclic menu everyday. The festival kicks of from 1st of August to 17th August, 2014 at our OLIVES multicuisine restaurant open for DINNER during week days and for LUNCH and DINNER during week ends.
